How can you clean soot from Porcelain and Dishwares?

My parents had a bad fire... it destroyed 90% of their antiques and collectibles... over 0,000 worth. They have found a few collector plates and some precious moments type figurines that are intact, but covered in soot. Is there anything that can clean them... or are they trash too?

    Hot dishsoap and oxiclean let them soak for an hour and then rub with soft cloth under the water.Good Luck!
