can you still be an Otaku if your life doesn't completely revolve around anime/manga/video games?

I've always considered myself an otaku. I watch a lot of anime, I buy the manga, I buy the figurines and collectibles, I cosplay, I draw anime characters every day. but I still really like school, and I hope to become a journalist, I also like ballet and ice skating a lot. Am I still an otaku, or just an fan?

  1. Demented Otaku says:

You are whichever you identify with.

Otaku status does *not* preclude being a productive, upstanding member of society. For instance, I work an 8-5 in cancer research, but my moniker here rather speaks for itself.

    otaku – obbsessed fan

    your world revolves around Anime/Manga

    I know I’m an Otaku, I don’t deny it.

you seem like a true Otaku. Keep it up =3>

    yup you are
I watch some anime, but i don’t do the other things you do.
thankfully, i am not an otaku.

  4. Black Winged Assassin says:

    Yes, you are.

    Otaku means obsessive.

Anime, manga, and video games are another part of obsession.

There are other types of obsessions too.

This is just the American definition of otaku.

The Japanese definition of otaku is a lot more worse.

-Over there, you are looked down upon by society, and you’re dead weight.
