Can I put a clay statue/figurine in a fish tank?

I have a little angel that I believe is clay. I want to put it in a fish tank but im not sure if it'll leech poisons into the water. Is it safe, or should I find something else?
greenbean - could you be anymore useless? I didn't mean leak, I meant leach, actually. But, I apologize. I didn't realize that the hillbilly grammar police were patrolling Y! answers this early

…likely the paint, if any, will leech ‘poisons’…although the staue may not have any paint on it at all
…the clay that the statue is made of will eventually leech some ‘caliciferous’ type of minerals, raising the ph….
    …you have some options :)
….either coat the statue with clear epoxy and let it dry for about 3 days….
…or plan to combat the ph rise with some lemon juices or possibly even driftwood, bogwood, etc. that leeches tannins
…tannins also tend to lower ph in large tanks…depending on how much tannins and what other ‘peat type’ chems may be in the wood
….live plants also absorb these trace elements to an extent and provide a buffer to many chemical and mineral related issues that might occur in an aquarium
….as for the angel statue, just clear coat it with waterproof expoxy and it will be fine
….be sure to include live plants anyway, those complete the symbiosis in a tank’s environment

You know…I wouldn’t risk it…It could fall apart…The fish could try to eat it….A bunch a mess will appear so i wouldnt do it

try to soak it first in water, if it crumbles it’s not good for your tank for the chemical compositon of clay may harm your fishes :-)
you could just go to a pet store and ask for tank decorations hope this helps
